BAG reports 24,602 new infections, 129 hospital admissions and 16 deaths

In Switzerland and Liechtenstein, the Federal Office of Public Health was notified of 24,602 new coronavirus infections within 24 hours on Tuesday. At the same time, the BAG registered 16 new deaths and 129 hospital admissions.

On the same day a week ago, the FOPH had received reports of 20,742 confirmed new infections, 109 hospital admissions and 15 deaths. This means that the number of cases has risen by 18.6 percent within a week. Hospital admissions increased by 18.3 percent compared to the previous week.

There are currently 679 people in intensive care in the hospitals. The occupancy rate in the intensive care units is currently 75.90 percent. 31.20 percent of the available beds are occupied by Covid 19 patients.

For every 100,000 inhabitants, 3293.21 laboratory-confirmed coronavirus infections were reported in the past two weeks. The reproduction number R, which indicates the average number of people infected by an infected person, was 1.36 on December 31.

67.61 percent of the population in Switzerland are now fully vaccinated. Another 1.64 percent received a first dose. Of the population aged 12 and over, 76.93 percent are vaccinated. In addition, 30.75 percent of the total population and 68.20 percent of those over 65 years of age received a so-called booster vaccination.

In the past 24 hours, 66,659 new corona tests were reported to the BAG. Since the beginning of the pandemic, there have been a total of 1,571,376 laboratory-confirmed cases of infection with the coronavirus, 40,608 people had to be treated in hospital and 12,047 people died in connection with Covid-19 disease.

According to BAG, there are currently 107,854 people in isolation who have tested positive for the coronavirus. And 40,647 people who have had contact with infected people are in quarantine.
