Sad news on the planet of football from Turkey. Center-back Ahmet Çalik, 28, was killed on Tuesday in a tragic car accident early in the morning in Ankara. The Konyaspor player lost control of his vehicle on the road before crashing into a fence, local press reports. The accident is said to have occurred around 9 a.m. in Hacilar, in the district of Gölbaşı.
“We are deeply saddened by the loss of our player Ahmet Çalık who has won the love of our fans and our city since the first day he arrived. The club would like to express its deepest condolences, in particular to the family of our footballer Ahmet Çalık, ”read a statement from Konyaspor. The club specifies that the player will be buried in “the family cemetery of Elmadag”.

Former Galatasaray player (2017-2020), Ahmet Çalik had worn the Turkish team’s jersey eight times during his career since 2015. A pillar of Konyaspor, he was not with Turkey. Selected at Euro 2016, he had never left the bench during group matches but was an indisputable holder this season with Konyaspor, current 2nd in the Turkish championship behind Trabzonspor.
Fatih Özgökçen, President of Konyaspor, also paid tribute to his player: “I am saddened by the loss of my brother Ahmet, who left me deep traces in a short time with his gentlemanly side, his attitude , his humanity, his privacy and his character.
