Kochi: The Division Bench on Monday dismissed an appeal filed by a single bench once morest a government order reducing the price of bottled water to Rs 13. A division bench headed by the Chief Justice rejected the government’s demand that the single bench order be quashed. It is suggested that the objections be presented before a single bench. With this, the price hike by the water companies will continue following the government stayed the order. Following the stay order, most water companies had hiked the price from Rs 13 per liter to Rs 20 per liter.
Under the Essential Commodity Price Control Act, 1986, the state government has ordered that a maximum of Rs 13 be charged for drinking water. The bottled water companies had approached the High Court once morest this. The court stayed the government order accepting this.
