Cape Town: Former Indian cricketer and commentator Sanjay Manjrekar has been selected in the Indian XI for the third Test (SA vs IND) once morest South Africa. Manjrekar was named in the Indian XI’s squad following captain Virat Kohli announced that pacer Mohammed Siraj would not play.
Manjrekar said KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal should continue as openers in the Cape Town Test. Pujara himself must play at number three. Captain Virat Kohli will be at number four.
At number five, Manjrekar said his mind was set on playing Hanuma Vihari, but Ajinkya Rahane was the best choice in practice. Although painful, I avoid the vihari. Manjrekar also said that Rishabh should be the wicket-keeper’s batsman. I am a supporter of Rishabh Pant. Therefore, the ball itself should reach the number six.
R Ashwin should play at number seven. Manjrekar said that Ashwin’s batting prowess should also be taken into consideration.
Manjrekar said Siraj should be replaced by Ishant Sharma in the pace squad led by Shardul Thakur, Jaspreet Bumra and Mohammad Shami. India won the first Test of the series at Centurion, while South Africa won the second Test at Wanderers. The team that wins in Cape Town can win the series. India are aiming for their first Test series win in South Africa.
