15 years have passed since the unveiling of the first iPhone by company founder Steve Jobs, specifically on January 9, 2007 at the San Francisco Theater. “Every now and then comes a revolutionary product that changes everything,” said the Apple chief.
Those in the hall got their first proper look at the iPhone, a surprisingly elegant phone that offers a touch interface and eliminated heavy physical keyboards – a device that has gone on to completely transform the mobile phone into an industry, Digitartlends reports.
“I didn’t sleep for the blink of an eye last night,” Jobs said at the end of his famous keynote address. “I was so excited for today, because we were so lucky at Apple. We have some really revolutionary products. The Mac in 1984 is an experience that those of us will never forget, and I don’t think the world will ever forget it either. The iPod in 2001 changed everything. It’s regarding music, and we’ll do it once more with the iPhone in 2007.
After all these years, Jobs got what he wanted. The iPhone, with its cutting-edge design, easy-to-use interface, and promise of innovative apps, quickly became a global success and transformed Apple’s fortunes beyond expectations.
By today’s standards, the first iPhone was very basic. Only a 3.5-inch touchscreen appeared (Jobs described it at the time as “giant”), much smaller than the standard 6.1-inch screen seen with the latest iterations of Apple’s phone. The first iPhone cost $499 and shipped with only 4GB of storage (8GB for an extra $100), which is a far cry from the terabytes offered with the recently released iPhone 13 Pro Max, although that particular device will set you back $1,599. And let’s not start with the camera technology on this first device.
