Atlanta, United States of America (CNN) – An Australian judge rejected the request to cancel the visa of Serbian player Novak Djokovic to enter the country, Monday, following he was suspended because the Australian authorities did not recognize the exemption he holds from receiving an anti-Coronavirus vaccine.
Judge Anthony Kelly rejected Djokovic’s visa request on Monday, and the world number one tennis player will be released immediately.
The Serbian player had been placed in detention since January 5, due to his arrival in Australia to participate in its Open Championship (one of the Grand Slam tournaments) without receiving a vaccine once morest the Corona virus.
The Australian authorities refused the medical exemption that Djokovic was carrying upon his arrival in the country, due to Australia’s failure to acknowledge that the recent infection with the virus exempts from receiving the vaccine.
The Serbian player was infected with the virus last December, and as a result, he was issued a medical exemption by the tournament’s organizing committee.
