American comedian Bob Saget was found dead in a Florida hotel room, his family said on Sunday. He was best known for his role on the 1980-90s sitcom ‘La Fête à la maison’.
‘Devastated, we confirm that our dear Bob is dead today,’ the actor’s family said in a statement released by People magazine. ‘He was everything to us and we want to tell you how much he loved his fans, performing in public and bringing people from all walks of life together through laughter.
Bob Saget, often referred to as ‘America’s daddy’, was found unconscious in a room at the Ritz-Carlton in Orlando, Florida, the Orange County sheriff’s office said. The circumstances of death remain unclear. “No signs of criminal act or drug use” were found, police said.
The comedian was touring the country and, hours before the news of his death was announced, tweeted regarding his enjoyment of performing his show in Jacksonville.
‘Loved the show tonight at @PV_ConcertHall in Jacksonville. An enthusiastic audience. Thanks once more to @RealTimWilkins for part one. I didn’t know I did a 2 hour set tonight. Glad to be addicted to this shit once more. Look on BobSaget.com for my dates in 2022, ‘the comedian wrote
‘I am devasted’
Bob Saget, 65, rose to fame playing Danny Tanner, a widowed father of three daughters, whose twins played by sisters Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, in the soap opera House Party. The sitcom, which aired from 1987 to 1995, was the subject of a sequel on Netflix between 2016 and 2020, focusing on one of the girls, DJ Tanner.
‘I am devasted. I am devastated. I am completely and totally in shock. I will never have another friend like him. I love you so much Bobby, ‘tweeted John Stamos, who played the very present brother-in-law in’ The Party At Home ‘.
Candace Cameron Bure, who played the oldest daughter on the show, reacted on Twitter: ‘I have no words. Bob was one of the best human beings I have ever known. I loved him so much ‘.
Bob Saget was also the narrator’s voice-over in the ‘How I met your mother’ series and appeared numerous times, playing his own role, in ‘Entourage’ from 2005 to 2010.
Daring humor
Born in 1956 in Philadelphia, the comedian had three daughters with his first wife Sherri Kramer Saget before remarrying with Kelly Rizzo.
‘Still in shock,’ comedian Gilbert Gottfried tweeted, ‘I spoke to Bob just a few days ago. We stayed on the phone as usual, making each other laugh. RIP to a friend, a comedian and a colleague Aristocrat ‘, a reference to a type of jokes without taboos in American stand-ups.
Far from the image of the ideal father of the series, his one-man shows indeed used a much more daring humor. ‘Bob Saget was a comedian who we loved and who pushed the limits. We will miss him, ‘said Comedy Central television channel on its Twitter account.
