The Omicron wave spares no country. In Israel, the new variant continues to spread and contamination continues to increase. However, the country has decided to reopen its borders.
The decision to relax border rules comes amid a record high level of coronavirus cases in the country. “We will find the balance between a functioning economy and the management of the crisis ”, declared the Prime Minister Israeli Naftali Bennett.
Israel has banned the entry of foreign nationals into Israel following the emergence of Omicron in South Africa.
Israeli authorities have also barred citizens and residents of the country from traveling to dozens of countries with high infection rates, including Morocco which has been placed on the Hebrew country’s red list.
Why did the government of Israel choose to open its borders, when the Omicron variant is causing an unprecedented number of contaminations in the country? Said red list has been deleted Friday because, according to the Israeli health ministry, the large amount of infections are now transmitted locally, not among travelers.
Under the new rules, most travelers vaccinated once morest Covid-19 or recovered from the virus are allowed to travel to Israel and the Palestinian Territories.
In this wake, the Israeli prime minister said free coronavirus tests will be administered to children, teachers, as well as residents of nursing homes.
