The tension linked to the next vaccination pass does not only affect mainland France. Overseas, demonstrations are also organized once morest the government project, sometimes giving rise to clashes. It was still the case this Sunday in the island of Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon while, in the evening, the Minister of the Sea Annick Girardin denounced the assault of the LREM deputy Stéphane Claireaux in front of his home. Other ministers and elected officials then reacted strongly.
“It is absolutely unacceptable”, sharply criticized the member of the government. The island of Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon, which has 6,000 inhabitants, has faced the explosion of positive cases of Covid-19 since the end of 2021, as in metropolitan France.
On the video, we can see the member for Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon being the object of projections of mud and earth by demonstrators. Many witnesses to this scene seem to laugh at the situation. “I will never let anyone flout democratic life and the values of the Republic. This is not how we conduct the debate of ideas. I give my full support to the deputy, who suffered a serious assault in front of his own family, ”added the Minister.

Bringing the subject back to local conflicts, the Minister of the Sea has targeted at least one official. “The images are deeply shocking, judge Annick Girardin. Those who call for violence must answer for their actions. Senator Stéphane Artano’s support for this mobilization, in addition to discrediting him, once once more demonstrates his lack of responsibility, ”also denounced the minister.
However, the targeted senator posted a statement on Facebook condemning this attack. The parliamentarian underlines “nobody can condone the inadmissible acts of which the deputy was victim”.
The President of the National Assembly, Richard Ferrand, declared to have called Stéphane Claireaux: “I assured him of my personal support and of the solidarity of the National Assembly in the face of the intolerable aggression he suffered at his home while he was offering the dialogue, ”he wrote on his Twitter account.
Attacks and death threats have increased in recent weeks, mainly once morest members of the majority who approved this week, at first reading, the bill transforming the health pass into a vaccination pass. Several of them have published on social networks the death threats they have received and announced their intention to file a complaint.
