North Korea – Kim Jong-il allegedly invented burritos

Kim Jong-il’s genius seems limitless. Even more than 10 years following his death. The regime’s propaganda had, already in its day, attributed to the Glorious General Descended from the Sky and Sun of the Communist Future (among other titles), multiple feats (including that of having made five holes in one during his first golf course). golf) and made him the inventor of the hamburger.

Obviously, this is not over since the spokesperson for the current regime, led by Kim Jong-il’s son Kim Jong-un, now claims that the venerable dad is also behind the creation of the burritos in 2011, shortly before he died. True, they are called wheat wraps in North Korea, but their design remains similar to the Mexican dish whose name “burrito” first appeared in 1895.

According to «Sun», the North Korean newspaper “Rodong Sinmun” affirmed that the current leader, thus Kim Jong-un, followed in the footsteps of his father by taking particular interest in this dish. State television continued in this direction by showing North Koreans devouring burritos at a stall outside the Kumsong Food Factory in the capital Pyongyang.

Apart from official propaganda, it seems that such dishes are extremely rare in the country which is instead suffering from food shortages.
