So you can process the IMSS voluntary insurance; see what diseases it covers and how much it costs

If you’re independent worker, you were terminated by an employer or you do not quote, the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) offers a modality of voluntary insurance to continue to be entitled to coverage of medical services it offers.

How much does it cost to take out voluntary insurance?

The cost of accessing the health services of the IMSS it is charged annually and varies, depending on the age of who wants to join voluntarily.

The older your age range, the more you will pay.

Annual payment

  • From 0 to 19 years old: 6,200 pesos
  • From 20 to 29 years old: 7,650 pesos
  • From 30 to 39 years old: 8,250 pesos
  • From 40 to 49 years old: 9,550 pesos

If you are over 50 years old, this is what you will have to pay per year:

  • 50 to 59 years: 9,950 pesos
  • 60 to 69 years: 13,800 pesos
  • 70 to 79 years: 14 thousand 350 pesos
  • 80 onwards: 14,850 pesos

What illnesses does voluntary insurance cover?

  • General medical services, clinic care
  • Surgeries
  • Pharmacy
  • Maternity care

Exclusions

  • Plastic surgery
  • Lenses
  • Hearing aids
  • Treatment of chronic conditions

They will not be able to make sure people who have any of the following diseases:

  • Malignant tumors
  • Chronic degenerative
  • Hoarding diseases (Gaucher disease)
  • Chronicles of the liver
  • Chronic renal failure
  • Heart valve disease
  • Heart failure
  • Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease with respiratory failure
  • Alcoholism and other drug addictions
  • Mental disorders such as psychosis and dementias
  • Congenital Diseases and Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome or Human Acquired Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV)

Note: They can enroll in voluntary health insurance Mexicans abroad that do not have a social security scheme.

How to do the procedure?

The easiest way to complete the procedure for voluntary insurance is online, having on hand CURP, Social Security number (NSS) and a personal email.

Other necessary documents

  • Valid official identification
  • Proof of payment of the anticipated annuity (for each member of the family group)
  • Certified copy of the Birth Certificate
  • Proof of address
  • Data of the applicant or legal representative
  • Medical questionnaire provided by the IMSS
