Sunglasses at Night – Libération

Corey Hart (1983)

Very first single from Montrealer Corey Hart, who has never been able to do better in his 40-year career, Sunglasses at Night is the very example of the interplanetary tube of which everyone knows the words, often unwillingly. A quick glance at the video is enough however to plunge back into the worst of the 80s: white shirt open on hairless chest, icy women with too much make-up, hard FM guitar solo… The reasons for the success are decidedly an unfathomable mystery.

Tiga & Zyntherius (2001)

Recaptured and conscientiously slaughtered over the years, Sunglasses at Night had a dark and sexy incarnation thanks to the grace of Montrealer ( once more) Tiga and Finnish Zyntherius (aka Jori Hulkkonen). The first real hit of the electroclash wave initiated by the German DJ Hell, the cover remains, twenty years later, a classic of this movement from the early 2000s which combined italo-disco, black but never virulent electro, vocals and a pop format. The duo have never done better since.
