Mali’s international Ousmane Coulibaly has suffered a heart attack while playing a league game in Qatar.

During the game between his club Al-Wakrah and Al-Rayyan, the 32-year-old collapsed shortly before the end of the first half and was then given emergency medical care on the pitch. The pictures show how an ambulance then drove onto the square. Coulibaly is in medical care, the league announced in a statement that evening and wished the defender a speedy recovery. It should be stable.

Coulibaly’s collapse brought back unpleasant memories of the Dane Christian Eriksen, who collapsed at the European Football Championship once morest Finland and had to be revived. The Argentine Sergio “Kun” Agüero from FC Barcelona recently ended his career as a professional footballer at the age of 33 because of his heart problems.

Coulibaly played for Mali for many years, but was not nominated for the Africa Cup. At club level, he was mainly active in France and Greece.

Cardiologist Schmied on Eriksen: “As a doctor, such a comeback makes little sense”

After his cardiac arrest, Christian Erkisen wants to try professional football once more at the last European championship. This brings with it a lot of risks, says Christian Schmied, Head of Sports Cardiology at the University Hospital Zurich.
