The other day game director Days Gone Jeff Ross said that sales of the game in a year and a half amounted to more than 8 million copies, and then exceeded this figure when another million were purchased by users Steam… Ross complained that executives in Sony considered the results to be very low. However, the actual sales of Days Gone were likely much less than the stated figure.
At the time I left Sony, Days Gone had been out for a year and a half (and a month), and sold over 8 million copies. It’s since gone on to sell more, and then a million+ on Steam. Local studio management always made us feel like it was a big disappointment. #daysgone #PlayStation https://t.co/KMZr2pGe9r

During a conversation with David Yaffe the top manager clarified that the now closed site served as a source for calculating the approximate number of sales Gamestat, who tracked the data on the trophies received.
These results cannot be considered reliable, as this includes copies taken by users from friends or purchased from their hands, as well as versions downloaded from PlayStation Plus – Days Gone is just part of the collection of free games for PS5 subscribers.
The former head of Bend Studio seems to have received information on the number of copies sold on Steam in a similar way – it is the million that the SteamSpy tracker shows, which has recently been often mistaken in its calculations.
