Victim in tragedy in Chiapas left work seeking improvement

Ramón Benito Almonte Espinal, one of the Dominicans who died in the tragedy of the state of Chiapas, in Mexico, left his job as a driver in the General Directorate of Prisons in Montecristi to cross various borders in order to go through the American dream.

Ramón Benito Almonte (Kuki), the victim’s father, was excited because his son had left almost six years of job stability in the dependency of the Attorney General’s Office to go in search of a better future for his family.

When the family learned of the tragedy, they were hopeful that Almonte Espinal would be among the survivors. They said that the first people who contacted were told that there were no Dominicans among the victims mortals.

“It has been a Stations of the Cross since December 9, that fatal day, until today at dawn, when the body was handed over to us. We had no peace because we did not have the body of our son with us”, Kuki expressed.

The last communication they had with the deceased was when he boarded the van where the group of immigrants suffered the accident. Ramón Benito Jr. was the father of a seven-year-old boy, who he had with Danira Lora.

“We will all remember him for how dedicated he was to his family and his work,” cried Elizabeth Almonte, the deceased’s sister.

Friends

Friends also define the deceased as an excellent person and a man who loved to do sports activities.

“Since we were a child we rode bicycles and practiced other sports,” said Jorge Luis Abad, a childhood friend of Almonte Espinal.

The young man’s body is veiled at his parents’ residence, located on Presidente Henríquez extension street, in the Francisco Javier neighborhood of San Fernando de Montecristi.

His burial will be at 10:00 am on Saturday in the old cemetery of that border city.

Another of the victims

Wascar Pérez Vargas, who was Ramón Benito Almonte Espinal’s brother-in-law, also died in the accident. The remains were veiled in the Doña Antonia section of the Hatillo Palma municipal district, belonging to Montecristi. He was buried this Friday followingnoon.
