Not so long ago, a well-known journalist and insider Jeff Grubb reported that the sequel Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order will be announced before E3 2022 and today another insider, usually well informed regarding future Star Wars releases, Bespin Bulletin supported this information and provided some additional details following reaching out to his sources within EA.
Jedi: Fallen Order 2 will be announced during the Star Wars Celebration, between May 26th and 29th, with a likely release in late 2022 to ride the hype wave ahead of The Mandalorian Season 3, or Spring 2023, which will coincide with the Ahsoka series instead.
One of the sources I spoke to told me that the team is still working day following day and grappling with the challenges of COVID, the goal is to formally present the footage at Star Wars Celebration 2022… Last year, multiple sources told me that Respawn intended to present footage from the Fallen Order sequel at Celebration next year, and that plan seems to hold true today. A source told me that there is still hope for a late 2022 release of the game, but it is undefined and things might easily change.
Bespin Bulletin recalled that the latest Star Wars games are coming out close with a movie or a TV series.
Lucasfilm and EA typically release a video game in advance of or at the same time as a big cinematic premiere. EA’s Battlefront was released in November 2015, just a month ahead of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. The second part of Battlefront was released a month earlier than “The Last Jedi”. Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order was released in the same month as Season 1 of The Mandalorian, and a month earlier Star Wars: Skywalker Rising. Finally, Star Wars: Squadrons came out a month ahead of the second season of The Mandalorian. If Lucasfilm and EA want to continue this tradition, which is being used to help sell the game by taking advantage of the hype and excitement generated by the new Star Wars project, then they have options. The third season of The Mandalorian is rumored to be out in late 2022, coinciding with the original date for the Fallen Order sequel, which it is still targeting. After that, according to rumors, “Ahsoka” will be released in the spring of 2023, and “Acolyte” – a few months later.
The title of the game will not be “Jedi: Fallen Order 2”, but “Jedi” followed by a subtitle. Characters from the first part will return to the game, as well as interesting characters from “Star Wars” that were not presented in the first part.
At this point, I don’t want to reveal who these characters are, I’ve been told regarding them since 2020, but since the game may not even be out this year, I don’t want to spoil the surprises so early.
Bespin Bulletin adds that the next game to be released will be a remake Knights of the Old Republic in 2023. Concerning Lego Star Wars The Skywalker Sagathen it may come out in April or May 2022.
At the end, the insider added that even now everything can change in the current situation due to COVID-19, for example, the release of The Skywalker Saga has already been postponed several times.
