Austria’s Chancellor Karl Nehammer has contracted the corona virus. The 49-year-old was without symptoms and had gone into self-isolation, said the Chancellery in Vienna on Friday. “There is no need to worry, I’m fine,” the office quoted the conservative ÖVP politician as saying. Apparently, Nehammer got infected on Wednesday from a member of his personal protection who tested positive on Thursday. Nehammer, who has been vaccinated three times, will now conduct his official business from home. On Thursday, Nehammer announced new measures to combat the pandemic, which is currently rampant in Austria due to the highly contagious Omikron virus variant. In addition, Nehammer had pushed ahead with plans to introduce compulsory vaccinations next month.
