Fabrice di Falco – Voices from the Overseas Territories competition

©FTV

Why did you create this competition?
Fabrice at Falco: I wanted to create a Voix des Outre-mer vocal family to bring together candidates who are passionate regarding singing. The free masterclasses that we give to candidates allow them to work, to discover each other, to share emotions together without rivalry. I was keen to highlight the voice overseas with excellent monitoring with our referent teachers in all overseas and monitoring the masterclasses that I lead to continue the progress of all these talented candidates. Since its creation, the association Les Contres Courants and I have accompanied candidates at best for the competition but also to present them to other competitions. The adventure of the Voices of the Overseas Territories does not stop at the competition for the territorial finals or the national final, it is important to shed light on these talents who deserve it.

How did the territorial finals go in the health context we know?
F.d.F. : From the 3e edition, the masterclasses were shaken up by the covid, we had to constantly adapt, reinvent, organize differently, because the main thing is not to interrupt anything, especially to give hope to the Voices. Working for weeks on a vocal program, regardless of the candidate’s level, is a real challenge because each candidate must prove to himself that he can do it, that he can sing and play a character to have fun. In order to maintain the masterclasses and finals, we had to respect all the obligations imposed to the millimeter in order to meet all health standards. We must get used to living with this covid and do everything to protect ourselves and the other, because it is the only way to be able to continue our art, transmit to the greatest number and share his vocal passion.

What happened to the winners of the first editions?
F.d.F. : Each year, we invite candidates to present them to other competitions. We prepare them vocally in parallel with their teachers as coaches so that they can have the maximum chance of being victorious.
Here are a few laureates who do honor by their progress and their victories.
Marie-Laure Garnier, winner of the first edition of the Competition, became Revelation lyrical artist at the Victoires de la musique classique in 2021 on France 3. We asked all the territories to vote for her, because the public vote might change everything. We are happy because his victory was possible thanks to his Voix des Outre-mer family. Stéphane Bern said: “This competition is prestigious because it gives us all a desire to go further to highlight their voices. “
Andréas Perez Ursulet and Livia Louis Joseph Dogué, winners in the Voice in the show category Wonders on France 2.
Luan Pommier was in the final of the show Amazing talent on M6 following a golden buzz.
Alix petris integrated a musical theater piece with a world tour and stood out in particular at the Festival d’Avignon in 2021.
In October 2021, three voices from overseas came out winners in the Avignon Opera Young Competition: Auguste Truel, Livia Louis Joseph and Axelle Saint-Cirel.
My Filao Festival in December 2020 in Martinique gave voice to the Voix des Outre-mer to pay tribute to Christiane Eda Pierre, then in July 2021 at the Paris Opera. Thus, many Voices were able to be heard and identified, which is essential in our current world.

This 4e edition will be special, because in tribute to my mother, the honorary godmother of the competition who left us prematurely in November … She was able to advise us, Julien Leleu and myself, on this lyrical adventure in the Overseas helping as much as possible so that these voices can know how lucky I was to be spotted and helped by Barbara Hendricks.

Interview by Sophie Desquesses

The director of the Conservatory, Fabien Mara-Dinard and lyricist teacher Peterson Cowan wish our two candidates good luck, Lylia and Laetitia, as well as Heiarii, special guest of the organization.

The first winner of this national competition is none other than a young Polynesian, the wonderful Tinalei Mahuta, who had excited the jury of the competition two years ago in the “Hopes” category.

Laetitia, Lylia and Heiarii prepare for the competition with the lyrical singing teacher, Peterson Cowan. But Laetitia and Heiarii were trained in lyrical singing by a wonderful couple, Emmanuelle VIDAL and the late Gaby CAVALLO, to whom they dedicate their songs on Monday.

“We have a lot of fun with everyone, it’s a warm and family moment. And it’s a great experience for me ”

Lydia

The masterclasses are going well, Fabrice chose E fetia for my song! What a tribute for Gabriel Cavallo !! There is a very good feeling with the other finalists. I can’t wait to discover the scene of the Opéra Bastille.

Laetitia

I am very happy and proud to have been invited. I take full advantage of the Masterclasses to learn as much as possible and perhaps be able to come back as a candidate. “

Heiarii

This final will also be broadcast live on France Musique.
