According to the China Seismological Network, at 1:45 on January 8, a magnitude 6.9 earthquake occurred in Menyuan County, Haibei Prefecture, Qinghai Province, with a focal depth of 10 kilometers. The average elevation within 10 kilometers of the epicenter is regarding 3,659 meters, and the population is sparse. No casualties have been reported so far, and the disaster situation is being further verified.
After the earthquake, the State Council’s Earthquake Relief Headquarters Office and the Emergency Management Department immediately initiated the National Earthquake Level 3 emergency response. The Ministry of Emergency Management and the China Earthquake Administration dispatched working groups to the scene overnight to assist local governments in carrying out disaster verification, mass resettlement, and earthquake trend research and judgment.
Up to now, the national comprehensive fire rescue teams in Qinghai and Gansu provinces have sent 55 vehicles with 499 people to rescue the epicenter, and a total of 2,260 people in the surrounding provinces have assembled on standby.
