Let’s stop playing yo-yo with the vaccine passport!

On December 14, Mr. Dubé and Dr. Arruda said that telecommuting and masks in common areas in the RPAs would allow us to defeat Omicron and stay ahead of the parade. We have to believe that we were not in front, but that we were dragging lunch behind.

Because, during the holiday season, François Legault and Christian Dubé announced new measures to counter the new wave. In addition to schools, all of the restrictions affect places where the vaccination passport was requested, such as restaurants and cinemas.

So, on December 30, we put our QR on the date. Currently, all open places such as grocery stores and pharmacies do not require the vaccination passport since it is considered essential services and we do not yet ask for it in businesses.

SAQ et SQDC

However, on January 18, the vaccine passport will be reborn with the imposition of it to enter the SAQ or the SQDC.

From now on, the government no longer considers the SAQ and the SQDC as an essential service. A novelty, since since the start of the pandemic, we have never closed these two places on the pretext that they were essential.

The government gives twelve days’ notice to allow these two crown corporations to prepare and the unvaccinated to stock up. Remember that restaurants have a big 24 hour notice before they are closed on New Year’s Eve.

Consistency

There will be only two places (SAQ / SQDC), on January 18, which will ask for the vaccination passport since restaurants, cinemas and other places will always be closed, until proven otherwise.

The government is thus trying to calm the discontent of those vaccinated who do not support the new curfew and the new measures.

The Legault government has always presented the vaccine passport as a tool to allow us to avoid new restrictions.

Today, we know that is not the case.

By bringing the vaccine passport to only two places, the message sent to the population is not very good. It lacks consistency. If the vaccination passport is good for the SQDC or the SAQ, why is it not good for restaurants?

When we talk regarding vaccination and what follows such as the vaccination passport, our elected officials should not play yo-yo with the consistency of their actions.
