Latam, Avianca and Viva Air cancel and reschedule flights due to an increase in Covid-19 cases in Colombia

The omicron variant of covid-19 is already dominant in the country, as confirmed by the Ministry of Health this week following the increase in infections with the disease and a possible fourth peak in Colombia.

In this sense, various routines of society return to be affected, as is the case of the arrival of flights to the country. DSince last Thursday, January 6, for example, the Chilean-Brazilian airline LATAM, reported that it had to cancel seven flights within the country. In their statement they detailed that one of the main reasons has been that the variant reached the members of their crews.

“Given the increase in cases reported by the new variant of covid-19 that has had an impact on some of our crew members; Y It has limited our staff resources. We have been forced to have some cancellations today“Said the airline on its Twitter account.

For this Friday, January 7, the situation remains and from Latam Airlines, they reported that once more, they were forced to cancel more flights for this day, in their statement they regretted “the inconvenience due to this measure.”

Bogota – Montería: LA 4198 at 6:01 pm

Montería – Bogotá: LA 4199 at 7:56 pm

Bogota – Medellin: LA 4014 at 9:56 pm

Bogota – Cali: LA 4067 at 9:52 pm

Previously they had already canceled the following flights:

Bogota – Cartagena: LA 4092 at 04:44 pm

Cartagena – Bogota: LA 4095 at 6:48 PM m

Bogota – Bucaramanga: LA 4436 at 08:50 pm

Bucaramanga – Bogotá: LA 4437 at 10:26 pm

“Due to this situation, which currently impacts 3% of our operation, flexibility will be given to the affected passengers”, explained the airline and added that to date 93% of its employees in the country have the complete vaccination scheme.

They also made this publication inviting users who are affected to request “The return of your ticket, change the date (without penalties) or request a change of route.”

They explained that they will constantly report on their social networks and website the changes that are being reported in their situation, but for now all the alternatives announced to solve problems for their users can be done on their official website or in their mobile application.

But this is not the only flight company that has been affected by the increase in infections with omicron in the country, Avianca He also announced that the increase in infections led the company to make the decision to early cancel some flights between January 1 and 15These are mainly domestic flights in Colombia, which affects 4% of the total operation.

For its part, Viva Air He also reported that some of his collaborators have been affected by the current situation in the country with the advance of COVID infections, but they insisted that 98% of their workers are vaccinated. However, the low-cost airline reported that, for now, some flights within the country have been rescheduled as an alert measure.

In dialogue with Portafolio, the director of the Aerocivil, Jair Orlando Fajardo, highlighted that the operators of the airline sector have taken great care of the disease by complying with the measures and that, currently, they are working “With the Minsalud in special protocols seeking the protection of users, crews and air terminal.”
