Honda accidentally invented the “time machine”

Some owners of used Honda and Acura cars faced an unexpected problem in the new 2022. The on-board clock of the standard head units of the Navi model has turned into a real “time machine”. They automatically moved to the date January 1, 2002.

The problem is noted both in the US and in Europe, according to the Jalopnik website. At the same time, the Japanese manufacturing company does not yet know what can be done regarding this. An attempt to set the date manually does not lead to anything good: the next time the ignition is turned on, the on-board computer is automatically sent 20 years into the past.

The date is incorrectly determined on several models at once, which were produced from 2004 to 2012. This is due to the peculiarities of date and time encoding. On one of the resources devoted to the repair and operation of the Honda CR-V crossover, it has been suggested that car owners will have to live with this Y2K22 bug until August 2022. Then, supposedly, the on-board computer will correct the error automatically, returning in real time.

Honda has already faced with similar problems in 2017 and 2021. Then the date was automatically thrown exactly 1024 weeks in the past.
