Alexander De Croo criticizes Emmanuel Macron’s words: “I rather want to annoy the virus, not the people”

This Friday, Emmanuel Macron justified himself regarding his statements regarding the unvaccinated. As a reminder, the French head of state had explained that he wanted to “piss off them until the end”. For AFP, he announced on Friday that he “fully assumed” this intervention.

Invited this Thursday on the RTL set to talk regarding Codeco, Alexander De Croo believes that Emmanuel Macron was wrong to use such contemptuous terms. “It’s not my vocabulary. I clearly won’t say it that way”, he started. “If we use the word ‘annoy’, I rather want to annoy the virus, not the people. What we want is to do the maximum to slow down this virus. And for that, only one thing really helps us: vaccination. “, he added.

The Prime Minister especially wanted to congratulate Belgium for its behavior in the face of vaccination: “In our country, it works very well. Today, one in two adult Belgians has already received the booster. There is a lot of desire to be vaccinated in our country. I know that there is part of the population that hesitates and I will do everything to convince them. But I remain convinced that convincing people is more effective than annoying them “.

“No regrets”

In December, the Concertation Committee aroused strong criticism because of the closure of the cultural sector. The government has also had to backtrack following a decision of the Council of State. For the Prime Minister, there is nothing to regret regarding the decisions that have been taken. “Can’t blame me for being careful in a time of uncertainty“, he judges.”I understand the disappointment in the cultural world, but on the other hand, in our hospitals, we have had people every day who have given their best for almost two years. We must try as much as possible to preserve our health systems, to keep our schools reopened. ”

Obviously, he does not dispute the decision of the Council of State. “We are in a state of law. The Council of State made a decision and overturned the measures we had taken. I bow. It is the decision of the Council of State, we did not have the choice”, he concluded.
