PaFor the first time in the history of Kishtwar, a woman judge was appointed to the Supreme Court. Aisha Malik, a former Lahore High Court judge, won the award. Aisha’s appointment was approved by the Pakistan Judicial Commission headed by Chief Justice Gulzar Ahmed. Aisha was made a Supreme Court judge by a majority of five votes to four.
This is the second time that the Pakistan Judicial Commission has met to decide on Aisha Malik’s promotion. Aisha Malik’s name first came before the Pakistan Judicial Commission in September last year. However, the candidature was rejected following the panel split into two factions.
Meanwhile, the Supreme Court Bar Association has filed a complaint alleging seniority in Aisha’s appointment. President Abdul Latif Afridi staged protests across the country to protest Aisha’s election. Abdul Latif Afridi has accused Aisha of being younger than the judges of the country’s five high courts.
Aisha Malik was appointed as a High Court Judge in March 2012. Currently, Aisha Malik is ranked fourth in the list of seniority judges of the Lahore High Court. Aisha Malik can continue as Supreme Court Judge till 2031
