The piece, which features 14 artists and a six-piece orchestra, was scheduled to be performed from January 18. It was, initially, to be presented last season on the occasion of the 50e anniversary of the theatrical institution.

“With 20 people on the stage, the number of cases which are on the rise and the uncertainty regarding the reopening of the rooms, we do not see how it might be possible to present this show. We can’t see the horizon right now. It’s just not possible, ”said Anne-Marie Olivier, co-executive director and artistic director of Trident.

Broken heart

Le Trident wishes to present it later in 2022. Which means the hiring of new actors to replace those who will not be available on the new dates that we do not yet know.

“We do everything we can. We are heartbroken. It is a pile of broken hearts, even if we know that it is nothing compared to the efforts of the nursing staff, ”she dropped in a telephone interview.

Madeleine Carreau, conductor of the Orchester symphonique de Montréal, is optimistic.

“Last year, on this date, there was no vaccine and we did not know when it was to stop. We might not see any light at the end of the tunnel, ”she recalled, Thursday, at the end of the followingnoon.

The situation, she says, is not the same at all.

“There are vaccines and we’ve learned a lot since then. We will get back on our feet and prepare a webcast program until the public can return to the theater. We know it won’t be long term, ”she said.
