Barcelona announced that Brazilian player Philippe Coutinho has moved to Aston Villa on loan during the current winter transfer window.
Barcelona said in an official statement that it had reached an agreement with Aston Villa to loan Philippe Coutinho to the team until the end of the current season 2021/2022.
The Catalan club added that the deal includes a clause giving Aston Villa the option to purchase following the end of the season, and the player is scheduled to undergo a medical examination and receive a work permit in English.
Coutinho was keen to leave Barcelona and return to the Premier League in order to play football on a regular basis, given that he did not have a real opportunity with Barca.
Coutinho knows Steven Gerrard, the current head coach of Aston Villa, well following playing with him at Liverpool for two and a half years, and the player is said to know a lot regarding the club and the team.
It is noteworthy that the 29-year-old moved to Barcelona three years ago in a historic deal, the most expensive in the history of the Catalan club, for 146 million pounds from Liverpool, specifically in January 2018.
