After having made the journey between them from Angers to Saint-Etienne on the night of Tuesday to Wednesday, Paul Bernardoni (24 years old) and Sada Thioub (26 years old) successfully passed their medical examination at the Robert-Herbin sports center in the ‘Étrat, this Wednesday morning. The French Espoirs international goalkeeper and the Senegalese right-winger of the SCO then initialed their six-month loan contract in favor of AS Saint-Etienne, the red lantern of Ligue 1.
24-year-old Paul Bernardoni (1.90 m), a French international hopeful, is from the Paris region. He was trained in Troyes with whom he made his professional debut during the 2014-2015 season at only 17 years old before obtaining the title of Ligue 2 champion in 2015. He was then transferred to Bordeaux and had two successive loans, in Clermont, in Ligue 2 (2017-2018) with the added bonus of the UNFP title of best goalkeeper in L2 then in Nîmes (L1). He played for Angers last season where he played all 38 games of the French championship in 2020-2021. This season, Bernardoni had lost his place to Danijel Petkovic following suffering pneumonia in October.
With Paul Bernardoni and Sada Thioub, he is the second and third signing of the Greens during this winter transfer window, following the signing, still for six months, of left midfielder Bakary Sako (33 years old, free), and pending that, still for six months, of central defender Joris Gnagnon (24, free). A central defender, a right-back and an attacker are still expected in the Forez by the end of January.
