13-year-old dead: judgment on extradition postponed

In London today the decision on the extradition of a 23-year-old Afghan to Austria was postponed. He is a suspect in the case of a 13-year-old girl who was killed in Vienna in June 2021. The next hearing will take place on January 12th.

The hearing was adjourned to give the accused’s lawyer, who is currently in corona quarantine, additional time to consult with his client. Specifically, in a conversation with the 23-year-old, the lawyer wants to clarify whether an appeal should be lodged once morest his extradition or not.

Because from the point of view of the defense it is currently not certain whether there will be an indictment by the public prosecutor in Austria – a prerequisite for a deportation according to British law, reported the English online edition of the newspaper “Daily Mail” on Thursday.

Investigations once morest three suspects are ongoing

The 23-year-old fled following the fact. On the basis of an international arrest warrant, he was arrested in a hotel in London at the end of July. The lawyer for the parents of the killed girl, Florian Höllwarth, is certain that the suspect will be extradited to Austria. There is no reason not to grant the Austrian extradition request, said the lawyer.

The 23-year-old and two other accused are being investigated in Austria for rape resulting in death. He and two other young men – they were 16 and 18 years old at the time of the crime – are considered the main suspects. Their DNA traces were found on the body of the killed. The 13-year-old died violently in June 2021 as a result of drug poisoning and suffocation.

Expert opinion incriminates accused

The toxicological examination had shown that the girl had received an overdose of MDA (methylenedioxyamphetamine), traces of several amphetamine derivatives as well as THC (cannabis) were detected. In addition, times have been discovered how they come regarding during a suffocation process, a chest compression or a choking attack. Forensic medicine also found traces of the rape.

A fourth man, who was initially linked to the case, is currently no longer being investigated. But he is in prison for other offenses.
