The good news is that the timeline feed will soon be making a comeback on Instagram. The boss of the social network has indeed announced in a video that several types of displays will be tested in the coming months.

Like announced last month in the US Senate, the chronological flow will make its big comeback on Instagram. The latter had disappeared from the application in 2016, to the chagrin of users. It had been replaced by the algorithmic flow that we know well, organized according to the publications that received the most reactions. The abandonment of this chronological news feed had been the subject of much criticism from users. Some may even think of delete their Instagram account.
Three news feeds being tested on Instagram
But things are changing on the side of Instagram, which regularly seeks to renew itself. So, according to Adam Mosseri, Instagram CEO, the very first tests have started for setting up three different post feeds for the News Feed, one of which is purely chronological. The boss of the social network detailed the changes in a video posted on Twitter, as well as on Instagram.

We’re starting to test the ability to switch between three different views on your home screen (two of which would give you the option to see posts in chronological order):
– Home
– Favorites

Adam Mosseri explained the differences between the three post feeds that will be available:
- Homepage (Home), which corresponds to the current flow, depending on the reactions and interests of the user.
- Favorites (Favorites), a feed to customize with your favorite accounts.
- Followed (Following), which allows you to see chronologically the latest publications of the monitored accounts.
Note that the “Favorites” view will also display a chronological view of the posts. The choice between these three feeds will apparently be made via a drop-down menu placed at the top left, in place of the current Instagram logo.
Adam Mosseri specifies in the video that tests are already deployed, but also that these changes will be available to all users during the first half of 2022.
Posting photos and videos on Instagram from a computer is now possible via a function recently deployed on the social network platform.
