A video of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s address to the tribes after the uproar of Al-Suwayyan’s statements circulated

Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) – The statements of the Saudi researcher, Saad Al-Suwayan, regarding the tribes in the Kingdom and that “their role is over” continue to provoke a wide interaction among activists on social media.

Al-Suwayyan’s statements came during an interview on the Gulf Rotana channel, on Monday, where he said: “I believe that the tribe’s role as a supporter of the state’s existence has ended, and I believe that Vision 2030 has distorted the trend towards economic and social achievements and so on. ..”

He continued, “If I were close to the decision-makers, I would have suggested to them a proposal, that they make a movement that encourages intermarriage between tribal and non-tribal, and between Bedouin and urban, Shiite and Sunni. We must try in a smart and programmed way (in order to integrate society).”

Activists, including the tweeter Mishaal Al-Zahid, circulated a video clip of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s speech regarding the tribes and his appreciation for them in response to Al-Suwayan’s statements.
