The French anti-terror prosecutor opens an investigation into the “Dakar Rally” accident, after Saudi Arabia denied any criminal suspicion

Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) – The French National Anti-Terrorism Prosecution announced, on Tuesday, the opening of an investigation into a car accident during the “Dakar Rally” race hosted by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, which resulted in the injury of its French driver, last Thursday, according to As reported by the French media.

The French anti-terror prosecutor said, in a statement, that it had opened a “preliminary investigation into several attempted murders linked to a terrorist group,” noting that the five passengers in the car, including the driver who was injured, were French. French media reported that the accident was caused by an explosion.

And the media spokesman for the Makkah Al-Mukarramah Police said, last Saturday, that “the relevant security authorities in the region started on Thursday an accidental accident in Jeddah Governorate for a vehicle belonging to the supporting work team for one of the drivers participating in the 2022 Dakar Rally.”

The Makkah police spokesman added that the car was “carrying 5 people of French nationality, one of them was injured and was taken to the hospital to receive the necessary medical care, and he is in a reassuring condition, while the rest were not harmed.”

The spokesman continued, “It became clear from the initial inference procedures that there was no criminal suspicion in the accident,” according to what was reported by the official Saudi Press Agency.
