ROG Zephyrus G14: Asus bets on AMD for its Windows 11 gaming laptop

In the large family of ROG products of the large family of Asus devices, the Zephyrus line targets gamers who want a relatively clean machine and high performance. the ROG Zephyrus G14 was one of the benchmarks for 2020 thanks to Asus’ judicious choice to bet on AMD Ryzen processors, less expensive and more powerful.

The brand renews this choice and goes further with the 2022 edition of its ultraportable: Radeon graphics chips are now in the game.

Anime Matrix et AMD

The ROG Zephyrus G14 presents itself as a 14-inch ultraportable in a relatively compact chassis: 312 x 227 x 19.5 mm for 1.75 kg. Asus uses a magnesium alloy and classic ABS plastic in it depending on the elements. Above all, we are entitled to a coating “AniMe Matrix»On the hood which will allow images or animations to be displayed thanks to a grid of pixels, at the risk of leaving aside the promise of sobriety. Fortunately, this is an option.

The 16:10 screen will offer either QHD at 120Hz with 100% DCI-P3 coverage, or Full HD at 144Hz with 100% of the sRGB spectrum.

Inside, there is therefore an AMD Ryzen 9 6900HS (35 W), Ryzen 7 6800HS or Ryzen 5 6600HS processor, supported by an AMD Radeon RX 6800S 8 GB (80 + 25 W) or AMD Radeon RX 6700S 8 graphics chip. Go (80 + 25 W). No Nvidia solution in this machine, this will allow, we hope, AMD and Asus to work on the distribution of energy between the two main components. We will also be entitled to up to 32 GB of DDR5-4800 RAM and 1 TB of PCIe 4.0 SSD storage.

Without Intel, no Thunderbolt. On the connectivity side, we have two USB-C USB 3.2 Gen 2 ports, two USB Type-A USB 3.2 Gen 2 ports, an HDMI 2.0b port, a microSD reader and a 3.5 mm jack port. A 76 Wh battery, which can be quickly recharged with 100 W in Power Delivery, completes the technical sheet.
