The price of croissants will take the lift

The price of grain has gone up. For once, the pastries will cost more next year. Up to 15% more on average.

Many raw materials have become more expensive this year. And cereals have not escaped the rule. Also, the Swiss Association of Patrons Bakers-Confectioners (BCS) recommends to its members to increase the entire product assortment for 2022, reports the “SonntagsZeitung”. As both raw materials and packaging, energy and credit card costs have taken off, the BCS recommends a 15% hike. The price of wheat alone has increased by 30%! This is between 10 and 15 cents that would be added to the current price of a croissant, for example, depending on the producer.

Each member is free to pass on this increase. Some will, some will not. The large distributors remain discreet. Migros, which together with Jowa owns one of the largest industrial bakeries in Switzerland, is “faced with significantly higher raw material prices.” Negotiations with suppliers are still ongoing and the impact on prices has yet to be assessed “in detail” by Migros, a spokesperson explains. The large distributor cannot “unfortunately not exclude price increases”. Same story with Coop.
