An official from the Ministry of National Defense met with reporters on the 3rd and said, “We are presuming North Korean defector A (a North Korean defector) and the authorities are checking the relevant facts in detail.”
A is a person in his early 30s who defected over a barbed wire fence in the border area under the jurisdiction of the Army 22nd Infantry Division in Goseong, Gangwon-do, in November 2020. Person A is said to have settled in Korea and had a job. However, it is said that A has not been contacted with the North Korean defector personal protection officer of the police since the 30th of last month.
An official from the Ministry of National Defense said, “This person was photographed around 12:00 noon on the 1st on our side closed circuit (CC) TV camera installed in the area of the Civilian Access Control Line (Civil Government). It was similar enough to say we agreed,” he said.
He added, “I know that Mr. A is a person who has been well managed in accordance with the regulations of the relevant agency.”
