Welsh champion Gerwyn Price showcased a flawless performance at the London Darts World Cup, yet was surprisingly ousted from the prestigious global competition. The 36-year-old, ranked number one globally, achieved a remarkable nine-dart finish in his quarter-final match against Michael Smith on Saturday evening. However, despite this feat, he ultimately fell short in the high-stakes encounter, losing 4-5 to his English counterpart.

Smith will face fellow countryman James Wade in Sunday’s semi-final. Wade secured his semi-final berth earlier that day, achieving a decisive 5-0 victory over Mervyn King.
The other semi-final pits Scottish players Peter Wright (who defeated Callan Rydz 5-4) against Gary Anderson (who triumphed 5-2 over Luke Humphries). The climactic final of the Darts World Championship at Alexandra Palace is scheduled for Monday.

Record-breaking third nine-darter
Price’s exceptional nine-dart finish etched itself into history books, marking the third such feat in the current World Cup — an unprecedented occurrence in the tournament’s annals. Previously, Scotland’s William Borland (December 17th) and Lithuania’s Darius Labanauskas (December 18th) had also accomplished this perfect game. Borland even used his perfect game to secure his first-round victory over England’s Bradley Brooks.
