The Health and Population Department disclosed reasons behind coronavirus infections despite vaccination. They emphasized that complete immunity isn’t guaranteed by any vaccine. They added that “breakthrough infections,” where individuals contract the virus post-vaccination, rise with the emergence of new variants like Delta or Omicron.
The Health and Population Department stated that breakthrough infections are common across all vaccines, not just those for COVID-19. However, they highlighted that post-vaccination infections usually present mild symptoms, resolving without severe complications or hospitalization. Fatalities are exceptionally rare.
The Department further explained that unvaccinated individuals face an elevenfold greater risk of death from the virus compared to those experiencing breakthrough infections. They clarified that complete protection isn’t immediate; it takes two to four weeks after the second dose of a two-dose vaccine or after a single-dose vaccine’s administration.
The Department urged all vaccinated individuals to maintain preventive measures against the virus until community immunity reaches a threshold allowing for the relaxation of such precautions.
