Mallika promotes franchising as a viable career path, a year-end initiative spearheaded by Jurin to stimulate employment and income generation, aiming to empower 10,000 individuals.
On January 1st, 2022, Mallika Boonmeetrakul, an advisor to the Minister of Commerce, announced the Commerce Ministry’s success in assisting job seekers and fostering new entrepreneurship. This achievement aligns with the vision of Jurin Laksanawisit, the Democrat Party leader, Deputy Prime Minister, and Minister of Commerce, who champions the growth of small and micro-enterprises. The ministry’s strategy involves income-generating franchise programs, continuing from Covid-19 relief efforts. Two key ongoing programs are: Franchise-based career development and roadshows across fifteen major provinces hit hard by the pandemic, and similar franchise-focused initiatives in central regions. The franchise model serves as a streamlined approach to business launch.
According to Ms. Mallika, the program provides entrepreneurs with mentorship and expert guidance, fostering success. The goal is to cultivate over 10,000 new franchise business owners, injecting more than 4.6 million baht into the national economy. This initiative, supported by Deputy Minister of Commerce Sinit Lertkrai, prioritizes economic recovery, particularly for micro-SMEs and those impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic and resulting economic downturn. The ministry’s key strategy for economic revival and job creation involves franchising; its user-friendly nature, high success rate, and reduced risk profile make it ideal for aspiring entrepreneurs. Established franchisees offer tried-and-tested systems, professional equipment, and clear operational guidelines.
Ms. Mallika explained that a rapidly deployable business hinges on four key elements: first, crafting a franchise prototype or a next-generation B2B franchise; second, establishing franchise standards; third, identifying top-performing franchises as benchmarks and inspiration for others—a goal facilitated by the annual Thailand Franchise Award competition; and lastly, fostering a franchise-based career development program. This initiative aims to empower aspiring entrepreneurs and job seekers by providing access to suitable franchise opportunities, thus ensuring career stability for both present and future generations.
She elaborated that this approach also expands the franchise market, significantly bolstering the nation’s economic foundation. A notable achievement during the past year involved the Ministry of Commerce adopting franchise models as a key strategy for job creation—especially beneficial for individuals and businesses impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, including those who experienced job losses or business closures. This initiative provides a pathway to financial independence for individuals and families while concurrently stimulating fundamental economic recovery and growth, aligning with national objectives. The franchise framework presents a streamlined route to entrepreneurial success, even for those lacking prior business experience, given that franchise owners serve as mentors, providing comprehensive business guidance and support to franchisees.
Ms. Mallika continued, highlighting a career-building franchise roadshow spanning fifteen key provinces, including major urban centers like Udon Thani, Chiang Mai, and others. The initiative featured approximately forty participating businesses during its run from October to December 2021. Additionally,
The Commerce Ministry publicized that previously, over 5,400 individuals expressed keen interest in acquiring a franchise immediately. The objective was to enroll 10,000 participants within a year, thereby expanding franchise operations nationwide. This initiative aimed to uplift communities and invigorate grassroots economics, generating over 4,600 million baht in economic value. Currently, over 600 Thai franchise brands boast more than 100,000 locations throughout the nation, holding a market valuation exceeding 300,000 million baht.
