9th constituency of French people living abroad: El Guerrab does not represent itself to better defend itself

Last Thursday, M’jid El Guerrab took note of the judgment rendered once morest him in a case unrelated to his mandate. The French parliamentarian, of Moroccan origin, who now intends to devote himself to his legal defense by appealing, therefore renounces to run for a second term.

Posters all over the walls and a team of around ten collaborators bustling regarding as if on the first day of the campaign.

In the premises where M’jid El Guerrab gathered part of the press, Saturday followingnoon in Casablanca, nothing led to believe, until the last minute, that he was preparing for a political “goodbye”. However, following thanking “his friends” for a long time, the recently sentenced LREM deputy announced that he would not stand once more. Loud applause greeted his decision.

Sadness might be read on the faces of some activists present in the room, even if no one really expected a new candidacy from the parliamentarian of the ninth constituency of French people living abroad.

As a reminder, the latter faces three years in prison following a case of aggression by a leader of the Socialist Party (PS). El Guerrab “took note of the judgment rendered in the context of a case unrelated to its mandate and now intends to devote itself to its legal defense by appealing this decision”, supports Minister Elisabeth Moreno, invested by the majority in the constituency of the French of the Maghreb and West Africa.

The French deputy of Moroccan origin calls on all his fellow citizens, who have “France at their hearts”, to vote massively for the official majority candidate, Elisabeth Moreno. If she is the only candidate “officially” designated by LREM (which has become Renaissance since May 5) in the 9th constituency of French people living abroad, many dissidents have come forward following the investiture of the Minister Delegate in charge of equality between women and men. “Elisabeth Moreno is not ready” for this election, protested Ahmed Eddarraz recently.

According to this Franco-Moroccan, born in Millau but who lives in Casablanca, the investiture of Moreno, “it’s more than a parachute drop, it’s a hot air balloon”. And he is not the only one to find fault with it, except that the official Renaissance candidate has the support of El Guerrab, which claims a satisfactory parliamentary record over the past five years with more than 6,600 amendments defended, more than a hundred of written questions addressed to the government, 35 topical questions and nearly 200 trips to the constituency of the Maghreb and West Africa.

During the period of health crisis that the world went through, El Guerrab organized “dozens of meetings, face-to-face or remotely, everywhere in the countries that make up the 9th constituency of French people living abroad”, recalls his team before d add that “tens of thousands of people were able to be repatriated to the national territory” during this period.

Still according to the same source, as close as possible to its fellow citizens for five years and in permanent contact with both the local authorities and the French administration, El Guerrab is fully invested in this mandate, in which it is committed 100 %: “Loyal and faithful, since 2017, in the presidential majority, he has never failed in his commitment made at the start of the legislature, that of supporting the President of the Republic, Emmanuel Macron, and his government.”

As a reminder, the French are called to the polls on June 12 and 19 to elect the deputies sitting in the National Assembly. The legislative elections make it possible to elect 577 deputies France is thus divided into 566 constituencies, to which must be added, since 2012, eleven new seats intended for the representatives of the 2.5 million French people living abroad.
