A survey by Straits Research detailed the state of the car multimedia systems, in addition to making predictions about the segment in the coming years. The size of this sector, in 2021, was estimated at $29 billion and should, according to the consultancy, reach $56 billion until 2030with an average annual growth of 8,8%.

According to the pushingthere is a growing consumer demand for information and entertainment systems, such as the CarPlay. Specifically, the navigation features of these software have been gaining in popularity due to their greater convenience and reliability.

As highlighted by AppleInsiderat the moment 98% of vehicles produced include support for CarPlay or Android Auto. Apparently, automakers are trying to meet what consumers prioritize: according to the survey, 80% of car buyers prefer vehicles that feature this technology.

More and more modular systems are being adopted, which allows for a lower cost, making vehicles somewhat more accessible. The size of the screens of these systems has also been increasing, in addition to them being increasingly present both on the car dashboard and in the back of the vehicle, aimed at those sitting in the back seats.

With regard to manufacturers, the Tesla is the one with the highest customer satisfaction regarding these multimedia systems, with 86% of approval. A BMW also seems to have done a good job with the iDrivethat has 80% positive reviews from consumers. To maintain this quality, however, it is necessary to constantly update the systems, which is very costly.

Unfortunately, solutions like CarPlay don’t just have positive externalities. The research recalled that technologies can increase the occurrence of accidents due to greater inattention on the part of drivers. In the United States, there has been an increase in 22% in the number of fatalities due to careless driving, from 2021 to 2022.

It is worth remembering that CarPlay is in the process of reformulation. As demonstrated at WWDC22, last year, the idea is that Apple’s system “dominates” several areas of the vehicle, not being restricted to the screen that displays applications and the like. Even actions such as fueling the car can be mediated by automotive software.
