975 animals are killed due to sheep and goat plague in Evros

The number of animals that will be killed in the entire prefecture of Evros amounts to 975, after the confirmation of the suspected sheep and goat plague disease samples, which were sent for laboratory verification in Athens, at the beginning of the week.

As ERT broadcasts, these are the animals of the farms where the cases were detected, specifically, in one unit in the area of ​​Orestiada and in three in the southern part of the prefecture. The geographical distribution of the specific four farms is along the border line.

From the beginning, preventive measures such as banning the exit of live animals, meat, animal carcasses, feed, materials, waste, fencing of the facilities and installation of a disinfection trench for vehicles, regular cleaning and disinfection of facilities and equipment were put into effect. After the confirmation of positive cases, three-kilometer protection zones, ten-kilometer surveillance zones and wider surveillance zones are created at the facilities of the specific farms.

The process of clinical control in herds of the prefecture is continued by the veterinary authorities.
