95 injured as two trains collide in Tunis

At least 95 people were injured following two trains collided in the Tunisian capital on Monday, but the accident resulted in no deaths, according to the Civil Defense.

“Two trains collided in the south of the capital, injuring 95 people, who were taken to hospitals,” said civil defense spokesman Moez Teraa.

The accident took place in the Jebel Jaloud region, near the capital, Tunis, around 09:30 local time (08:00 GMT), and the total injuries “ranging from fractures to light bruises,” according to Tariah, who confirmed that one of the two trains was not carrying passengers.

In recent years, Tunisia has witnessed train transport accidents that have killed people.

And in 2016, five people were killed and 52 others were injured in the city of Jebel El Jloud, south of the capital, Tunis, as a result of a collision between a public transport bus and a train, due to a malfunction in the intersection signals.

In mid-June 2015, the Fahs area in the governorate of Zaghouan, regarding sixty kilometers from the capital, witnessed a terrible train accident, which left 18 people dead and 70 injured.
