91st anniversary of the Argentine Naval League

The Argentine Naval League turned 91 years old and celebrated it with a ceremony that took place on the President Sarmiento Frigate, in the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires. In addition, the fallen of the Isla de los Unidos ship during the Malvinas War were honored.

The event was headed by the president of the League, naval expert VGM Fernando Morales, who was accompanied by the National Naval Prefect, Guillermo Giménez Pérez and the Chief of the General Staff of the Navy, Rear Admiral Carlos María Allievi, part of the staff of both Force, Malvinas War veterans, family members and special guests.
After the singing of the stanzas of the National Anthem, the 2nd vice president of the League, Admiral VGM Daniel Enrique Martin, expressed a few words alluding to the occasion and later the senior chaplain of the Prefecture made a religious invocation.

Next, the head of the entity addressed those present and announced the appointment as honorary presidents of the Argentine Naval League to the National Naval Prefect, Prefect General Guillermo Giménez Pérez and the Chief of the General Staff of the Navy, Rear Admiral Carlos María Allievi, who received a diploma in honor of their designation.

This traditional celebration of this date was forever marked by a tragic event that occurred on a day like today, but in 1982, when in the midst of the Malvinas War the transport ship ARA Isla de los Unidos was attacked and sunk by the enemy. in the San Carlos Strait in circumstances in which it was in full compliance with logistical supply to the land forces deployed on Malvinas land.
