Actress Shannen Doherty, best known for her role in the TV drama series “Beverly Hills 90210,” has died at age 53 following a long battle with cancer, People magazine reported Sunday.
“It is with a heavy heart that I confirm the passing of actress Shannen Doherty. On Saturday, July 13, she lost her battle with cancer following many years of battling the disease,” her publicist Leslie Sloane said in a statement to People.
“It is with great sadness that I confirm the passing of actress Shannen Doherty. On Saturday, July 13, she lost her battle with cancer,” Leslie Sloane, Doherty’s spokesperson, told the outlet.
Doherty, known for her role as Brenda in the aforementioned series, revealed in October 2020 that she was fighting a personal battle with terminal cancer.
The actress decided to step away from the cameras for a while, although in 2015 she suddenly returned to the media scene when she announced that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer, ABC reported.
At the time, Doherty blamed her then-representatives, who had apparently not paid her health insurance during the year in which the illness appeared.
She used her various social media profiles to share with her thousands of followers how she lived her illness day by day, both on the days when she was more optimistic and when fear and uncertainty invaded her.

In 2020, in an interview, he reported that the cancer he had been suffering from for five years had gone into remission and that he was in stage four.
