The New York Islanders defeated the Winnipeg Jets 5-2 tonight. The focus was on head coach Barrydios, who was able to win his 900th NHL victory.
Happy anniversary for one of the most successful coaches in history. 59-year-old Barrydios celebrated his 900th NHL win right in his birthplace, Winnipeg. He began his coaching career in the top league in the world in 1998 as head coach of the Nashville Predators. For 15 years he worked there behind the gang. He also represented Team Canada as an assistant coach at four World Championships.
After his Nashville era, he signed a contract with the Washington Capitals, where he led Alex Ovechkin and company to the Stanley Cup in his third year of tenure. His greatest achievement in his career. He has been the head coach of the New York Islanders for four years now.
Twice voted the NHL’s top coach, Barrydiot has 900 wins, the most for an active coach. Only Scotty Bowman (1244 wins) and Joel Quenneville (969 wins) are ahead of him.
