Caracas. The Penal Forum reported that from July 29 until 3:00 pm on Saturday, August 3, it has recorded 939 arrests throughout the country, which have been duly “verified and identified.” The largest number has been in the Capital District, with 150 detainees, and Carabobo, with 136.
The NGO reported that among those arrested there are 90 minors. Gonzalo Hemiob said that they have received reports that many are within the autistic spectrum. “They must be released immediately and, in any case, they must be allowed contact with their families, lawyers and therapists,” he demanded.
Alfredo Romero, also from Criminal Forumindicated that the women arrested and prosecuted within Zone 7 for protests would be transferred to the INOF, in Los Teques. However, he had not been able to confirm the information.

Also among those arrested is the lawyer from the Penal Forum Kennedy Tejeda. He was arrested when he was at the rural command of Montalbán, in the state of Carabobo, asking about the alleged detention in the place of some people arrested in the protests. He only wanted to provide free legal assistance and defend their human rights if they had been violated.

Escarano disappeared and his son was arrested
The former mayor of San Diego, in the state of Carabobo, Enzo Scarano has been missing since Friday evening, August 2. Through social media, it went viral that he had been arrested north of the city of Valencia. The Carabobo political leader was with his son Vicente Scarano in a bakery near his home.
Initially, the deputy to the Legislative Council of Carabobo state, Carlos Molina, reported that the political leaders were detained by officials of the national security forces. However, shortly after it was learned that only Vicente Scarano, the son of the former mayor, had been taken.
Journalist Hecmiry Lugo explained on her X account that Enzo Scarano’s wife, Rosa de Scarano, reported that her son was taken by about 12 heavily armed men when he was leaving his residence. The officials searched the residence to find the former mayor, but since he was not there, they took her son. As of the morning of Saturday, August 3, the whereabouts of both opposition leaders were unknown.
Mayor allegedly arrested
A statement from the Mayor’s Office of the Mejía municipality in San Antonio del Golfo, Sucre state, confirmed the arrest of Mayor Jordan Sifuentes. Apparently, the arrest was carried out by officers of the General Directorate of Military Counterintelligence (Dgcim) on Trunk Road 009, on the Cumaná-Puerto La Cruz highway.
Sifuentes is the only opposition mayor of the Sucre state, elected with the support of the Voluntad Popular party. They had been looking for him since July 30, when his vehicle was intercepted and taken to the headquarters of the Bolivarian National Guard (GNB), in the jurisdiction, but the person in the vehicle was his driver.
