the essential
The Hautes-Alpes firefighters were called, around 3 p.m., this Saturday, December 17, by the mother of the 9-year-old child. He was taken care of, safe and sound, by the emergency services.
He felt the ice crack under his feet. A 9-year-old boy, who was crossing an icy body of water located in the town of Veynes (Hautes-Alpes), was panicked when he observed that the ice on which he was walking was not as solid as he meant it. The child fortunately managed “to take refuge on the small island of land which is on the lake, not far from the shore”, explain to us our colleagues from Provence.
He was not hospitalized
His mother then alerted the emergency services who quickly intervened on the spot. Supported by the firefighters of the Hautes-Alpes, the boy did not ultimately need to be hospitalized.
Last weekend, four boys, ages 6, 8, 10 and 11, are dead following falling into a frozen lake in the UK. The authorities call for great caution: “Frozen lakes, ponds, canals and reservoirs may seem charming, but they can prove deadly”, recalled this week a member of the British rescue team.
