NEW YORK — Family and loved ones will say their last goodbyes in New York on Monday to Luis Feliz Camilo, the 9-year-old boy who was murdered in the Dominican Republic during a trip that was supposed to be a fun vacation with his family.
The first wake for the little boy began on Sunday in the Bronx and a second was held this Monday starting at 8:00 am; Burial for him is expected at 12:30 pm at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Yonkers.
The father and mother of the minor were surrounded on Sunday by an entire community from The Bronx that accompanied them to say goodbye to their son, who was the victim of an alleged robbery on April 19, shortly after leaving the Cibao international airport along with relatives, when they were going to Villa Vásquez, by the Circunvalación avenue in Santiago. Those involved have already been arrested.
“I thank the agents in the Dominican Republic, they have done a good job, and they have already left that in the hands of justice. God is up there, he knows,” said Sergio Feliz, the boy’s father.
Gioser Luis Feliz Camilo, who was in the fourth year of primary school, died from a bullet wound to the head when he arrived in the country through the Cibao international airport with family members, and they were heading to Villa Vásquez, via Circunvalación avenue in Santiago.
“They intercepted us, we did not stop, we continued, when we left, they fired and that shot hit the child,” added the father of the minor, Sergio Luis Feliz.
After the tragedy, a Santiago district judge ordered preventive detention for the 6 defendants in the crime. One of whom the father claims was his best friend.
“Of course I know, he was the only one who had information about me,” said the father of the minor. “I want his family to know something, that if they are in prison today it is because they had to see it.”
The minor’s father, who was wearing a T-shirt with the last photo taken with his son, sent a message to the authorities on behalf of him and the child’s mother who did not stop crying during the wake.
“Who is going to return it to me, what you have to do is fight to do justice, and there are 30 that we want,” he added.
At the time, the President of the Dominican Republic, Luis Abinader, regretted the incident and confirmed the arrest of the suspects.
Those allegedly involved in the murder, who are residents of the Cienfuegos sector of Santiago, were identified as Luis Ángel Vargas Brito, Derlin Javier Mercado Martínez, César Junior Ulloa Cuevas, José Manuel Almonte Santana, Elian Martínez Sánchez and Tomás Morel, who would be a friend of the father.
According to the Police, the suspects rented the white vehicle with which they followed the car driven by the father of the minor, his sentimental partner and his son. The little boy suffered a bullet wound to the head and died at the Doctor Arturo Grullón children’s hospital in Santiago.
The case remains under investigation.
