The German Social Democratic Party confirmed to AFP on Saturday that at least nine women were drugged with so-called “rape drugs” during their participation in a party party attended by Chancellor Olaf Scholz.
Lars Klingbeil, who heads the Social Democratic Party with Schulz, said he was “shocked” by the issue.
In Die Welt newspaper, Klingbeil considered that “the possibility of something like this happening during an event organized by the Social Democratic Party angers me,” expressing his hope that the perpetrators will be arrested and prosecuted.
“The feelings are very high,” a spokesman for the SPD’s parliamentary group told AFP, confirming the information published by the newspaper “Tagspiegel” on the matter.
Berlin police reported that they were investigating serious bodily harm following a 21-year-old woman filed a complaint once morest an unknown person.
“I advise all concerned to file a complaint,” Katja Mast, an official in the parliamentary group, wrote on Twitter.
Nine victims have been listed so far for rape drugs, which are relaxing drugs, and a spokesman for the parliamentary group did not rule out more.
The Social Democrats, in an e-mail to participants in the summer party, which took place on Wednesday near the Chancellery, denounced the “barbaric act, which we were immediately informed of by the Bundestag (parliament) police.”
About a thousand people participated in the traditional celebration of the Social Democratic Party before the parliamentary summer recess, including the chancellor and several deputies and their assistants.
“It was an internal event. It can only be attended by invitation,” the spokesman said. “There are still a lot of suspicions, and the police are investigating.”
Berlin police said in a statement that a 21-year-old woman had alerted her to this incident. This young woman stated that the next day she no longer remembered anything from the event, and went to the hospital for a medical examination and then filed a complaint.
During the party, the young woman who had eaten the food and non-alcoholic drinks felt nauseous and dizzy.
Police said that four other cases have been reported so far.
