Dr. Sally Mahmoud, Head of the Guidance Department at the Directorate of Veterinary Medicine in Gharbia Governorate, said that the harms of eating fesikh and herring during Eid al-Fitr can be reduced by following several tips, including:
1- Washing the fesikh and sardines with vinegar diluted with lemon juice, to reduce the salt content in it. Remove the head and entrails.
2- Add lemon and eat lettuce, cucumber and watercress, in order to avoid infection with acidity of the stomach.
3- Eating parsley, orange, banana and cantaloupe, as this helps to remove excess salt from the body.
4- Eating hibiscus and parsley helps diuresis.
5- Have green tea with mint, thyme or cinnamon.
6- Do not eat too much fesikh, and it is recommended to eat 150 grams.
7- Drink plenty of water.
8- It is advised not to eat fesikh for pregnant and lactating women, patients with heart, liver, kidneys and stomach ulcers.
9- Avoid carbonated water, as it helps to retain water in the body because it contains sodium bicarbonate.
