The Bärenschützklamm was withdrawn as a finalist out of respect for the relatives of the fatal accident in 2020, the ORF announced.

The nine state finalists for “9 Places − 9 Treasures” were presented last week. Styria is now changing the state winner, who will start the race for the most beautiful place in the country on October 26, 2024. After the Bärenschützklamm was withdrawn as a candidate, the second-placed location in the primary – the Giglachseen – is now appearing as a finalist for Styria in the live program “9 Places – 9 Treasures”.

Gerhard Koch, regional director of ORF Styria, and Gerhard Jantscher, first chairman of the Alpine Association – Mixnitz section, explain: “Yesterday afternoon, the Steiermark regional studio received an email from the family of a victim of the accident in the Bärenschützklamm. In this letter we were asked to: Due to the tragic incident four years ago, the Alpine Club as the operator of the gorge and ORF Steiermark decided to reconsider the “9 Places − 9 Treasures” final candidacy of the Bärenschützklamm This means that the Giglachsees, who came second in the Styria voting, will move up and will represent our state on October 26th in the ORF 2 main evening show “9 Places − 9 Treasures.”
